The inappropriateness in rustling a plastic bag!
The man next to me is loudly gorging himself with chocolates, the man in front of me is constantly clearing his throat, a couple of people are screaming into their phones, the driver honks on every single vehicle even if they're not doing anything wrong, and an old man somewhere behind me is snoring so loud I have a hard time hearing my own thoughts. All these sounds are extremely annoying and I am struggling to not get too irritated. After some time on the bus, I get out my ice coffee and sandwich which I keep in a plastic bag to prevent spilling crumbs everywhere. I start eating and all of a sudden I feel someone tapping me on my shoulder. It's the man next to me. He is looking mad, pointing at my bag, screaming something in Chinese. He takes a hold of my bag, illustrates how it rustles and screams again something, to me, completely incomprehensible. Of all the annoying noises on the bus, the one of a plastic bag is what causes the man to scream. Really? I look at him, tell him that I have no clue what you're saying, remove the bigger plastic bag from the sandwich but keep the smaller one, and keep on eating.
The Chinese are a people I don't understand, neither linguistically nor behaviorly, but I respect the fact that he got annoyed by my plastic bags and I therefor removed the worst one. It's too bad the rest of the people of the bus couldn't show the same sort of respect towards their co passengers.
